Toys for Santa
Toy Donations for Santa
As part of the Historical Society’s Old Fashioned Christmas event, we will again be collecting toys for Santa to give to needy Elk Grove children. We’re starting now and welcome all donations of "new, unwrapped" presents. With your help we can make this the best year ever for Elk Grove children. Please call Jeanette at 685-8115 to make arrangements for dropping off toys. Your help with this important event is very much appreciated. Thank you!

The Parade of Trees 2011 - Decorating Contest

The Elk Grove Historical Society invites organizations and businesses to participate in the Parade of Trees, a new feature in the “Old Fashioned Christmas” event held each year at the Elk Grove Hotel & Stage Stop Museum in the Elk Grove Regional Park. The Parade Trees will line the walkway approach to the hotel. Beautifully decorated by local designers, the Hotel will be open for tours on three Friday, Saturday and Sunday weekends in December from 12–6 PM. Santa himself will visit the Hotel on Saturdays and Sundays to have photos taken with kids of all ages.

This is a good way for your organization to join in a community event and have your tree admired by all who visit the Hotel during the December holidays.

Contest Details and Requirements

• Participants will provide a live tree between 6 and 8 feet tall. The tree can be cut or alive in a container. No artificial trees.

• Each organization will be assigned a 6 by 6-foot lawn section to set up its tree and surrounding display. A tree stand and staking material will be provided to secure the tree’s position.

• Participants will select an appropriate Christmas theme for their tree and display area. An 18 x 24-inch sign board will be provided for each group to briefly describe its theme.

• One electrical outlet will be provided for each tree. Participants will provide LED lights, all decorations, and extension cords as needed. One spot light may be used. Keep in mind that decorations will be exposed to various weather conditions as well as park critters. Food items should not be used as decorations.

• Each group will display its organization’s name on a six-inch wide waterproof ribbon or fabric with lettering at least four inches tall, and should be draped across the tree so it can be easily read.

• Tree set-up is scheduled for November 25 and 26 between 12:00 – 5:00 pm.

Tree take-down is scheduled for January 7 between 12:00 – 5:00 pm.

Trees will be judged by the Historical Society’s “Old Fashioned Christmas” committee on Saturday evening, November 27. Awards will be made based on originality and creativity, effective representation of chosen themes, and observance of contest requirements.
